We’re going back to the moon. Plans are being made, hardware is being designed, built, and tested to return humans to the moon and beyond in a new era of American space exploration. This episode explores how we did it in the past, and how and why we will do it again. The moon is critical to future explorations: it will be where we learn to build sustainable colonies on other worlds.

This super-telescope is the next generation successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, with a mirror 6 times bigger. It will also be able to peer back in time. For the first time in space exploration, scientists will be able to explore the formation of the first stars and galaxies and search for planets that can support life.

Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano set sail to gain control of the global spice trade, but end up becoming the first expedition to circumnavigate the earth. The yearslong voyage—along with the suffering, the violence and the loss of life and property—were all in pursuit of a shorter route to the so-called Spice Islands (now the Maluku Islands) and their much-coveted aromatics.
